ON Residence is more than an experience – a myth coming alive, bringing the glory of the past before your very eyes. In tune with the vibes of the historic city of Thessaloniki, ON Residence is a journey back in time to when glory, charm and joie de vivre were the elixirs of life.
Thessaloniki is fascinating and vibrant, like no other city in the Mediterranean – a melting pot of cultures that mixed and created an authentic cosmopolitan metropolis.
ON Residence revives high society glamour and the city's grand past that saw celebrations at the iconic Olympos Naoussa, located at the seafront next to the unforgettable Mediterraneé Hotel, part of the Tornivoukas family heritage.
The ON name derives from the first letters of the thrilling Olympos Naoussa restaurant, a popular haunt for decades, the city's most glamorous dining option and a celebrated establishment that championed local communities and gastronomic traditions. Olympos Naoussa was the meeting point for the elite, a true legend glorifying the city's contemporary scene and symbolising the city's spirit.
The imposing mansion was designed by the architect Jacques Mosse in 1926. It is a jewel of the eclecticism of the first decades of the 20th century, with decorative elements and architectural forms that go back to the belle époque and the neoclassicism periods. Almost a decade previously, in 1917, Thessaloniki suffered a catastrophic earthquake, and the whole city was rebuilt in such a way that it would become the capital of the Balkans again. With this mindset, the entire city aimed to return stronger and better. And it did.
In this wonderful mansion, Thessaloniki welcomed a brewery named Naoussa that soon became the talk of the town and a legend to locals and visitors alike. The upper floor accommodated the offices/headquarters of Olympos, a leading ice-making company. Olympos Naoussa was meant as the emblematic synergy for the city of Thessaloniki and went down in history as a symbol for the elite and the gastronomy of the city and beyond. The chefs brought their passion to every dish, and the high society of each epoch shaped the world as we know it.
From a brewery in its beginnings, a variety show in 1942, a restaurant with dancing in 1957 and a classic restaurant associated with the city’s social, secular and business life, Olympos Naoussa was the most mythical restaurant that Thessaloniki gave birth to and historically was the one that expressed the city’s rich food culture. In its unpretentious history, Olympos Naoussa connected Thessaloniki with top-quality gastronomy and ultimate elegance, creating a landmark of fine dining and living, an exceptional destination in Europe.
After closing its doors at the end of the 90s, Olympos Naoussa now returns on the ground floor of ON Residence to embrace once more the spirit of our times.
ON Residence reflects today's luxury hospitality, keeping high-end gastronomy as a treasure under the pillow. The glorious mansion is still an architectural jewel, and has now been fully renovated with total respect for its unique identity and design.
